Furality is proud to announce that The Center Orlando is the official charity partner for our next convention, Furality Somna!
The Center Orlando, Inc., established in 1978, is dedicated to the well-being of the Central Florida Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities. The Center aims to promote and empower the LGBT+ community and its allies through advocacy, education, information, and support. Through its initiatives, The Center works tirelessly to create a more inclusive, supportive, and accepting environment for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Center Orlando's programs and services include:
- Health Services: The Center provides crucial health services, including HIV and HepC testing, mental health counseling, medical referrals, free NARCAN, and more. Their Health & Human Services Testing Center is an essential community resource.
- Transgender Support: The Center provides a multitude of resources for trans and questioning individuals, including counseling, advocacy, financial assistance for medical procedures and legal name changes, and informative discussion groups for parents of trans kids.
- Youth Programs: The Center offers resources and safe spaces for LGBT+ youth, fostering a sense of belonging and providing much-needed education and positivity.
- Senior Support: The Center offers programs and services designed to address the unique needs of older LGBT+ individuals.
- Legal and Immigration Assistance: The Center runs free online immigration clinics with licensed attorneys in multiple languages and provides notary services.
- The Pride Pantry: The Center maintains a stockpile of essential resources available to those in need within the LGBT+ community, ensuring that nobody who reaches out—or their pets—goes hungry.
The Center Orlando was also chosen for our 2024 convention, Furality Umbra, where the VR furry community raised an incredible $47,000 in aid. However, a reduction in state and federal funding, damage suffered from Hurricane Helene, and an increased necessity for all services offered by the Center means that the need for funding and support is greater than ever.
The work that the Center Orlando does remains especially relevant to members of the furry community, which itself contains a significant number of LGBT+ individuals. We're thrilled to once again come together to support the Center in a time of need.
